Get a Web Presence
Being online and checking out other people's website is great and many love to do it but being online yourself and having others read your material is even greater. Most of us have opinions and are literate enough to get our messages across so why not put them online. There are some great companies willing to do it for you and many are free.
Write articles about your sites as they are a great way to get work published and so are platforms like Squidoo. Social network sites are handy for getting the word out there and for back-links so search engines can find and list your material.
If you don't know how to build a website, and few people do, then start with a publishing platform with modules already built for you. You don't need HTML knowledge or other information to get going and before long you will be into it in a big way as enthusiasm builds. There are many platforms for writing and publishing free blogs as well.
It depends on your goals as to how far you want to go with the Internet. My research into the origin of language and religion and my background allow me to write profusely all day and every day if the need is there. Articles written from the heart is what people love to read so avoid sales pitches as they can cost you in the long run.
The main thing is to enjoy what you do and to ensure that others will benefit from your expertise. Don't push things too far until you have established yourself and learned all you can about marketing and getting your messages across? This will all come in time.
