With so many websites and gurus (real or otherwise) all telling you how to make money online you'd think that it would be easy but in fact the exact opposite is true just because there are so many. What happens in many cases with people that try to start an online business is that they can get distracted by the constant allure of what I'll call "shiny objects" - all promising to be the next best thing since sliced bread for all sorts of things whether that's for: how to attract customers, how best to convert leads, how to source products easily and cheaply, how to ensure free traffic constantly, etc.
This all results in several things and see which of the following apply to you:
- You suffer from "information overload".
- You spend so much time reading information and saving it for later because you think it might be useful that you actually don't DO anything.
- You never complete a project.
- You jump around from one "latest and greatest" method to the next.
- You don't have the internet business that you hoped for!
Step 1 - Clear The Clutter
Firstly what you need to do is stop signing up for everything that gets promoted. Next go through you email inbox and pick up to a maximum of three internet gurus that you will subscribe to and follow. Pick the three that you think actually offer good advice along with their hopefully not-too-frequent promotions. Then go through the rest of the emails and "Unsubscribe". You must do this to stop the overwhelming inflow of "distractions". Once you have "unsubscribed" then delete the emails.
Step 2 - Detail Your Desired Lifestyle
You need to take some time to really think about what you want and why you started trying to build a successful internet business. For many of us an internet business offers what has become known as an "internet lifestyle": the ability to work where we want, when we want, for how much we want.
Now I realise that you may well have been trying on the internet for a while and think what the heck has this to do with ensuring success but let me tell you that without defining in writing (ideally with accompanying pictures) your specific desires (whether that's a certain amount of target income per year, holidays at home or abroad, new car, house, etc.) it is akin to setting off on a journey without knowing where you are going. You wouldn't ring up an airline, would you, and ask for a ticket, but tell them you don't know where you want to go!
You might think that setting goals and suchlike is mumbo-jumbo but there are countless successful entrepreneurs that swear by this. So go ahead and do it - you've actually nothing to lose but everything to gain. If necessary do it for no other reason than you need to know your destination in order to be able to remain focused on getting there.
Step 3 - Stop Juggling
Our lives are hectic enough as it is and if you are a small business owner you do to a certain degree have to multi-task within your business. The key point here is to stop trying to do too many "unnecessary" things at once.
Don't try to complete more than one project at a time. Allocate specific times to actually work on your business as opposed to doing admin. I suggest reading and replying to your emails only twice a day, spending no more that 30 minutes each time - once at lunchtime and again towards the end of the day.
That way you have a clear morning to work on your business without having been distracted by any emails and then again a clear slot in the afternoon before breaking to deal with emails and admin.
Step 4 - Choose ONE Proven-To-Work Blueprint
This is obviously a key step for ensuring success in your money-making endeavours - you must choose a proven-to-work method for making money online. The point is that you choose just ONE!
Now there are many proven internet profit blueprints that you could follow and which one best suits you will depend on your individual situation and skill set. I would hazard a guess that one (if not all) of the 3 internet gurus that you have decided to remain subscribed to via email has a blueprint that would be suitable for you to follow.
Step 5 - Start Implementing
Having selected a blueprint for your online business, now just start to implement it. In variably all these blueprints have a step-by-step approach outlined and you should diligently follow them.
Remain focused on the tasks at hand. You should find you are not being distracted by lots of "shiny objects" since you are following only three mentors, not reading emails all day and allocating dedicated quality time to the income generating tasks in your business rather than admin.
Step 6 - Do NOT Deviate
This step is just as important as all the others - do not deviate or stop until you have achieved your desired outcomes. By definition if you selected a "proven-to-work" blueprint then you will succeed just so long as you do not get distracted or give up before your hard work pays off.
And let's be clear about one thing - any bona fide business blueprint is still going to require work on your part. There is no such thing as "money for nothing" and no magic "push-this-button" money making solution but if you follow the above 6 steps then there is no reason why you won't achieve the internet business success you want and deserve.
Step 7 - Now You Can Refocus!
Only once you have achieved your initial desired level of success is when you can if you want refocus and explore new avenues and opportunities - whether those be for business or for pleasure! It is always easier to build new success upon existing success but in the beginning it is just a case of staying focused on your goals.
